Kentucky Wide podcast launched

LOUISVILLE, KY—In celebration of Kentucky’s 233rd birthday, the Frazier History Museum has launched Kentucky Wide, a new podcast spotlighting the people and places that have shaped the Commonwealth.

Hosted by museum staffers Mick Sullivan and Sarah Jemerson, Kentucky Wide debuted its first episode June 1 and will release new episodes biweekly through summer 2025. The show is part of the museum’s broader effort to highlight untold stories from all 120 counties, building on the success of its “Cool KY Counties” exhibit.

The debut episode features four pioneering Black photographers: the Smith twins of Nicholasville, Moneta Sleet of Owensboro, and Bud Dorsey of West Louisville.

Future episodes will include a towering figure—literally—in Martin Van Buren Bates of Letcher County (a 7’9” giant), renowned wedding dress designer Madame Glover of Louisville, and controversial Civil War General “Bull” Nelson from Maysville.

The podcast is a team effort from the museum’s staff, including contributions from Jason Berkowitz, Megan Schanie, Simon Meiners, Amanda Briede, Nick Cook, and Kent Klarer.

Episodes are available on Apple, Spotify, Amazon/Audible, and iHeart. Kentucky Wide is a production of the Frazier History Museum—“Where the world meets Kentucky.”
